Analysis of Fiber Orientation and a Simulation of Damage Fracture Prediction Using an X-ray Phase Imaging Method for Discontinuous Carbon Fiber Random Laminated Molded Products

In chopped carbon fiber tape reinforced thermoplastic?CTT?material, the anisotropic region of orientation after press molding often causes degradation mechanical properties and damage fracture. This study explores means obtaining shape tensors from molded products then predicting CTT fracture locations. Extensive data obtained by X-ray CT image processing are analyzed using a simple method to create waviness model.The tensor product is through phase imaging. The material finite element model with calculated mapped tensor, prediction simulated. Results showed that positions both test simulation agreed in specimens having large regions. However, small regions did not match. Therefore, images strain distribution piece under tensile load were compared cross-correlation. correlation between results, thus confirmed effectiveness simulation.
